Sent: 02/28 2006 03:02 PM followed this from another link. Dick, I lived in Bronaugh. My dad was Charlie Claflin. I have a lot of great memories from my home and my Dad. You signed a record album for me. The album was the one that you wrote about the people in Bronaugh on the back. I would be thrilled to purchase a signed copy of that album. I have a record player. The album you signed was lost. Actually, all my albums of yours are gone. My ex-wife will not let me have them. Have thought of you often and your background in Bronaugh. You may not remember me, 7 years your junior, but I was so proud of my family's connection with you. I am a big fan of your music. I bumped into a friend of Dick's at the Plains Bed & Breakfast in Plains, GA in July 2005 and Dick's name came up. Is your old label ever going to get their head out of their backside and release your stuff on CD? My poor old LP's have seen better days. I was wondering, if I could still get a copy of your 1st Album. If you have any information as to where I could get a copy, please let me know. I think it was a great album. I should have gotten a copy way back when, but of course I didn't. I look back fondly on that weekend in 1979 when you appeared up here in the DC area, the Bethesda Marriott to be exact. The late Dave Allen was your opening act at the gig, and you put on an amazing show, with little appreciation from the barfly audience. (I opened for the late Gamble Rogers the following weekend, and that was the end of that series.) I remember the joke you told at brunch on Sunday morning before you flew back to Nashville. The story was about a couple of duck hunters who weren't having any luck at all, and one of them surmised the problem was they weren't throwing the dog high enough! Got your "Centaur" disc sometime ago, and it's terrific, but would really like to get my hands on the rest of what came out, as well as the material between your last Asylum release and "Centaur". I guess you know by now that Tom Rush has recorded "Making The Best Of A Bad Situation" on his self-produced "Trolling For Owls" disc. Different arrangement from yours, but very effective, and still very funny. Drop me a line when you get a chance. Would love to see you up here in the DC area one of these days. Take care of yourself! Len Name: Gary Kanter City: Seattle Favorite Feller song:: Sent: 02/10 2004 11:54 AM Do you ever get your 3 chords to the Northwest? Enquiring minds want to know. When I took guitar lessons from you back in the dark ages, you told me there were three elements every song needed to be a hit: leavin', the wind, and something else. Can't remember. Do you? Also, I looked at the list of songs you wrote. What happened to "Proximity Past"? You know, the one Chuck made you change to "Purple Flower of Love." I used to sing it when I was performing in California. I'd give anything to have the lyrics and the chords. Also, remember "Buffalo Nickel," that one of the boys in The Gass Company wrote and we went to Monument Records with Chuck to watch them record their demo. Somebody recorded it later, but I can't remember who? Do you remember? I downloaded "The Credit Card Song," and I love it. I'm glad I knew you way back when, Millie Name: Lin Jones City: Elm City,N.C. It brought back some good memories of touring with you in the late seventies with Kelvin and his reprobates. And even better memories of when you entertained me on the town in Nashville.Give my regards to Jimmy Payne, and best wishes to the one and only "phantasmagoricalist", steel away. Bronaugh, Missouri was just a few miles from Liberal, Missouri where I lived. He also lived in Liberal with him mom for a while. He was my first Boy Friend. We used to talk on the phone every afternoon. I haven't seen him for over 35 years. One of his friends is married to my cousin Bobby Stevens. I would just like to say Hi! |
